The secure bookmarks works perfectly fine to get the forms filled from WITHIN safari.

The trick is to enable your safari bookmark syncing with your iPhone (done from within iTunes) and in the 1Password application itself, click on Sync and Sync to iPhone Safari Bookmark - it will ask you to enter in a sync password (can be anything; doesn't need to match either the 4 digit 'pin' or the master unlock on the iPhone 1Password app). Once you have created the Safari Bookmark, go back to iTunes and sync

If Safari on your iPhone was running prior, open it and click and hold till it exits (kill the application). Restart Safari and form submission by using 1Password Logins from the Bookmarks list on your iPhone should work perfectly.

Tested on iPhone 3G 2.1

It is a pain to memorize and enter passwords in Safari on a Mac (with keybord), but it is twice a pain to enter passwords in mobile Safari with little keybord.

I'm still not sure how to get the passwords automatically entered into my iPhone. When I click on the keyhole icon, I get my username and password (that part that can fit) published across the top of my iPhone screen, NOT put in the spaces on the website. Am I supposed to retype the entire password (as I said, much of which doesn't fit on the top of the screen) without cut and paste? What am I missing?

Interesting that you don't have access to your passwords directly in Safari any more. You used to be able to export your 1password data from your mac to an encrypted Safari bookmark, which would then be synced into mobile Safari. When you wanted to enter a password on a website on your iphone, you would select the bookmark, enter your password, and select the entry. It would then paste the information into the web form.
I wonder why they removed that functionality?

I know how you feel about remembering passwords. After cycling in Europe for a year I went to make a phone call home and couldn't remember my long distance PIN. Saved a ton on phone calls!

@Cheapirish: Not too sure about that; I only tried to sync it with my Mac Pro, not the MBP. Since I keep those two machines synchronized manually I'm not sure how it would really work.

@Dave Teare: Thanks for the comment Dave. As I mention both in the main posts and others I've done on it, 1Password is one of my favorite utilities, especially on my Macs. You guys really did a great job on it. I assume some of the shortcomings I note for the iPhone version are a reflection of the limits of the platform as much as anything else. Still, for a 1.0 release it's very helpful and I'm glad you made it available.

Regarding the PIN code, @rfcoates hit the nail on the head: it lets you customize your security level for each item. We plan on adding a per-item Security Level preference on the Mac edition and then set PIN/master password protection during the sync.

one small correction to me earlier comment. You don't have to go into edit mode to turn off the Master Password protection. That option is at the bottom of the Info screen.

Thanks for this post, David. I love 1PWD on the Mac (both home and work) and got it for my new iPhone as well. But this is the first time I've read about how it's supposed to work on the iPhone. I couldn't figure how to use it without the copy and past function, but your trick about the keyhole helped me. I'm looking forward to trying it the next time I need to access a password-protected site on my iPhone.

One question - I'm assuming you can sync it to two separate machines (home and work in my case)? I've tried the sync function, but didn't go in to verify that I've got both sets of data.

David, the reason for the pin and the master password is to give you customizable security. You can turn off the Master Password requirement on a site by site basis in the Edit area. This will allow you to acres that site with just the 4 number PIN. But keep extra security for sites that use financial info like PayPal or you bank. Pretty smart I think.
